Sustainability at Hotel Grauer Wolf
Fresh and sustainable products from the region
Guests at our Altstadthotel Grauer Wolf are pampered with products from the local area, if not from our own production. Homemade honey or our herb patch are just the beginning. The fact that we pay attention to sustainability in all our processes has even been confirmed by the DEHOGA with a gold certificate. Environmental checks by the association for the hotel and catering industry examine areas such as energy, climate, water, waste and food, purchasing of regional products and sets strict quality requirements. We are pleased to have been awarded the Gold Seal.
Beehive
In addition to accommodating our guests, we also house two bee colonies. The semi-shaded location of our inner courtyard is ideal for this. The little industrious workers swarm out within a radius of 2-3 km – to the Botanical Garden, for example – and thus produce 10 to 15 kg of surplus honey, which we keep ready for ourselves and our guests.
Because we are good hosts, but not beekeepers, we get professional support from the beekeepers. Together we set an example for animal welfare. Beekeeping is important for our environmental system and we are happy to set another example for sustainability.
Bakery
We get most of our delicious baked goods from the Trapper bakery just around the corner. The family business there also looks back on a long tradition. This bakery has placed great value on artisan baking tradition and quality in the production of baked goods for generations.
For this, only handpicked ingredients and the best raw materials are used. This fully corresponds to our idea of sustainability.
Zeilinger Farm
From here we get the best breakfast eggs for our guests. This family farm cultivates about 17 hectares of fields, which are cultivated with grain and maize for the farm’s own animals. The livestock includes pigs and various types of poultry. Optimal husbandry and careful selection of feed guarantee consistently high quality. This fully meets our standards.
